International Resources for Education of African Deaf And Blind Children: I-READ-ABC

The mission of International Resources for Education of Africa’s Deaf And Blind Children (I-READ-ABC) is to establish, facilitate and promote educational opportunities for all Deaf-Blind Children in order for them to develop to their fullest potential into self-sufficient adults within their communities.

Welcome

Welcome to the official website for International Resources for Education of African Deaf and Blind Children (I Read ABC®).  The non-profit charity was founded in August 2002 to provide education for deaf and blind children in Africa.  It was granted charitable status by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on May 1, 2003. Among many projects, I Read ABC provides full scholarship for teacher training at Kyambogo University in Uganda, sponsor deaf and blind children in schools, provide scholastic resources and support other charities in educating needy African children.

While I Read ABC® strives to uplift deaf and blind African children by giving them the gift of literacy, it also invites children in North America to become directly involved in social justice issues, and working for a better world.  Many children in Canada work hard by washing cars, baking cookies, and doing read-a-thons to raise funds for the many projects that I Read ABC® undertakes in Africa.  To them, I say, we are proud of your selfless actions to make the world a better place to children who do not have opportunity.

Finally, you, the reader, is invited to take a moment to see how you can become directly involved in I Read ABC® programs in Africa.  You can become a regular donor, a funding coordinator in your community to raise funds for I Read ABC®, or even a volunteer in one of the many schools supported by I Read ABC® in Africa. Whatever you choose to undertake will make a difference in the education of poor children in Africa.
